L'huître plate Belon existe en Bretagne depuis des siècles. Elle fît la renommée de " La Paimpolaise du Large" dans les années 60.

Depuis le début des années 80, sa production est rendue difficile à cause d'une maladie qui l'a dissipé. "La Paimpolaise du Large" en produit encore un peu en élevage au sol afin de rendre l'élevage plus sauvage et de limiter la perte par maladie.
